Today’s Google Doodle honors the late Eiko Ishioka. Based on the images, one could deduce that she was a costume designer. But Ishioka was soooooo much more than that. An artist, advertising art director, graphic artist, costume designer, logo designer and all around creative talent, Ishioka passed away in 2012 from pancreatic cancer. The woman was talented in just about every creative endeavor imaginable. Read more

Mark Ryden’s Sweet Costumes and Sets for ABT’s “Whipped Cream”
The American Ballet Theater presented the world premiere of its newest ballet, Whipped Cream, about a boy who consumes too many sweets and hallucinates about sugary treats, just last night. Choreographed by Alexei Ratmansky, scored for ballet by Richard Strauss (who also concocted the original libretto), the show features sets and costumes by Pop-surrealist artist Mark Ryden. Read more
