The traditional Candy Cane or Peppermint Stick has long been a treat associated with the Holiday Season. Folklore says that in 1670, a choirmaster at Germany’s Cologne cathedral bent the ends of some sugar sticks to represent shepherds’ crooks, and distributed them to youngsters. Thus the familiar shape. Its earliest known association with Christmas was in 1874, and by 1882 canes were being hung on Christmas trees.
Nowadays, in addition to the traditional peppermint flavor, there are tons of specifically branded candy cane flavors like Jolly Rogers, Life Savers, DumDums, Smartees, Jelly Belly, Oreos and even soda pop.
While all of the aforementioned are palatable, there are some flavors which are not. The following ten flavored candy canes by Archie McPhee are about as nauseating as possible – and all are available for purchase.
