Have you ever seen something so beautifully designed that it would make you consider taking up a sport you’d otherwise ignore? That’s how I felt when I saw this Thomas Steuri Petanque Set. A stunningly designed trio of metal balls and a small wood target ball held in a frame of wood, steel and leather that can be used to play Pétanque, Bocce Ball, Boccia or whichever term you may use for the game of Boules.
Thomas Steuri Petanque Set
The game of Boules or “Pétanque” originated in France, and has since become a popular garden game enjoyed by many around the world. Game play is similar to Italy’s Bocce ball in that the goal is to place your own balls as close as possible to a smaller target ball or to shoot the opposing balls away from the target ball.
Designed by Thomas Steuri and made in Switzerland by leolo, a Zürich based studio focusing on simple & functional objects crafted by local Swiss manufacturers. The leolo-work ranges from everyday objects to furniture concepts and toys, all of which demonstrate simplicity in design, a passion for craft – and the pleasure for the unexpected.
This Thomas Steuri Petanque Set is perfect for summer evenings. Boules and Pétanque have become a popular garden game enjoyed by many around the world. Before play can commence the first thing to do is select a suitable playing area. Although the game can be played almost any where it is important that the space is free of objects and the area is fairly flat.
The boule balls are made of metal by Obut. They become more and more beautiful through use as they develop a patina. The leolo frame – made of walnut, steel and leather – turns the set into a decorative object.
