Superhero gas masks ganged IIHIH

Hungarian born artist Kata Legrady’s unusual work, most of which merges childhood icons with weaponry, has combined a novelty from childhood with the reality of war and conflict in her series of Superhero Gas Masks.

One will discover intriguing settings where gas masks are covered with other masks, like one artificial skin overlaying another. Mickey Mouse, a novelty from childhood, and Catwoman, an erotic fetish, represent our longing for lightness or the irrepressible need to adorn reality with the erotic, and in this way are hiding our most deeply rooted fears without completely concealing them –David Rosenberg

Kata Legrady was born in 1974 in Barcs, Hungary, currently lives in Hanover (Germany) and works in Hanover (Germany), Budapest (Hungary) and Paris (France). Legrady’s exhibition at Pari Nadimi Gallery will be accompanied by a the book Bombs and Candies: Kata Legrady by David Rosenberg, published by Skira Publishing House in Milan, Italy. “Art Game Book, Artists in the 20th Century” (Assouline Publishing, New York, 2010) is another book by David Rosenberg which will also accompany Legrady’s exhibition at Pari Nadimi Gallery, the book included Legrady’s work together with the works of artists: Damien Hirst, Jeff Koons, Takashi Murakami, Vanessa Beecroft, Maurizio Cattelan and more.
