If you haven’t yet heard, artist Jeff Koons designed a special collection of leather goods and scarves for Louis Vuitton inspired by his Gazing Ball paintings. During the unveiling of the event, which took place – appropriately – in the Louvre, photographer Patrick Demarchelier captured some of today’s most formidable actors posing with products from the collaboration.
Koons X Louis Vuitton Masters Collection
In the French House’s latest collaboration, Louis Vuitton worked with New York-based artist Jeff Koons to create a new range of bags and accessories that launched in stores and online on April 28th.
One of the most widely recognized figures in contemporary art, Koons has brought imagery from his long-standing ‘Gazing Ball’ paintings – a series of large-scale hand-painted reproductions of works by the Old Masters – to a range of Louis Vuitton products.
His re-creations of five masterpieces, one each by da Vinci, Titian, Rubens, Fragonard and Van Gogh have been transposed on to iconic Louis Vuitton bags like the Speedy, the Keepall and the Neverfull.
Wallets, clutches, chain bags, backpacks, keychains and scarves are also in the collection.
The new collection of bags and accessories designed with Jeff Koons was unveiled April 11th at the Louvre Museum in Paris. The collaboration was celebrated with an exceptional dinner placed next to the Mona Lisa, in the Salle des Etats, hosted by Bernard Arnault, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, LVMH and Jean-Luc Martinez, President-Director of the Louvre Museum.
Fashion photographer Patrick Demarchelier shot celebrities Cate Blanchett, Jennifer Aniston, Justin Theroux, Michelle Williams, Jennifer Connelly, Catherine Deneuve, Fan BingBing, Léa Seydoux, Adèle Exarchopoulos, Chloë Sevigny and Doona Bae with one of the five new bags in the collaboration.
Pieces in The Collection
There are 12 products featuring the Mona Lisa by Leonardo of the daVinci, 10 featuring Van Gogh’s A Wheatfield With Cypresses, 8 with Fragonard’s Girl with Dog, 6 of Rubens’ The Tiger Hunt and 4 of Titian’s Mars, Venus and Cupid.
Inside the bags
The coolest part of the bags are the interiors which explain the project and pair Koons‘ famous bunny piece silhouette with the original artwork.
