You may never get to the The Hotel Metropole in Monte Carlo, so I thought I’d share this lovely pool, art, furniture and outdoor area created for them by fashion designer and icon Karl Lagerfeld with you.
Karl Lagerfeld Odyssey Pool
The French designer’s concept, ODYSSEY, features the hotel’s new swimming pool with a stunning fresco-style installation made up of 15 glass panels portraying Ulysses’ journey, gardens and Joël Robuchon’s third restaurant within the hotel. Lagerfeld appears to have a present fixation on Greek history as seen by his calendar for Pirelli.
The mural, retracing Ulysses’ journey as chronicled by Homer, has been created by the internationally renowned fashion designer. Clearly a fan of Greek Mythology, Lagerfeld also created a Greek God and Goddesses calendar for Pirelli the same year he began designing this. A real piece of art in itself, the mural serves as a stunning backdrop to this exclusive area.
During the day, ODYSSEY is a haven of peace, exclusive to hotel residents and to the ‘Odyssey’ members of the Métropole ESPA Monte-Carlo. VIP guests are able to enjoy breakfast and lunch by the pool, between 8am and 6pm.
The dual concept restaurant ODYSSEY offers an alfresco dining experience at lunchtime with light and refined Mediterranean cuisine. Between 7pm and 11pm from June through to September, ODYSSEY transform into a destination cocktail bar also aimed at non-hotel guests and locals, with live music, a resident DJ and innovative light bites created by Joël Robuchon.
The pool area also features furniture designed by Karl Lagerfeld and accommodates up to 30 guests. Overlooking the pool, the “sundeck” provides additional sun loungers.
From the end of September through early Spring, the sea water heated pool becomes an indoor space, thanks to a beautifully designed hard top structure, thus allowing access throughout the year.
The ODYSSEY is located in the Hotel Metropole at 4 Avenue de la Madone, 98000 Monaco
