Mattel, led by designer Carlyle Nuera, has created a one of a kind Zendaya Barbie doll to honor the actress/singer.
Zendaya Custom Barbie Doll
Nuera, a designer for Mattel, has recreated the look singer/actor/dancer/director Zendaya wore to the 2015 Oscars. From the hair extensions to the Vivienne Westwood gown, he and his team of sculptors, face painters, hair designers, patternmakers, seamstresses and more have nailed her, down to the eyebrows.
Zendaya received the special custom Barbie doll from Nuera at the Barbie™ Rock ‘N Royals Concert Experience on September 26, 2015 at the Hollywood Palladium. The Mattel event, which she hosted, encouraged young girls to “raise their voices” and is an experiential event benefiting VH1 Save The Music Foundation.
The doll, created in her likeness, commemorates her iconic Vivienne Westwood look from the 2015 Oscars Red Carpet where she inspired people of all ages to stand up for themselves.
“I’m excited to be a part of the new direction the Barbie brand is headed, specifically how they are celebrating diversity in the line and encouraging kids to raise their voices,” said Zendaya. “It’s a positive message to send to my fans, including my nieces who are coming with me to the concert.”
When I was little I couldn’t find a Barbie that looked like me, my…how times have changed. Thank you @barbie for this honor and for allowing me to be apart of your diversification and expansion of the definition of beauty. Can’t wait to keep doing amazing things with you #besuper – Zendaya, Facebook
Zendaya posted the above instagram pic comparing herself to the Mattel doll and the one below showing her appreciation.
The stunningly beautiful 19 year old Zendaya has been moving others with her recent birthday gesture, a CrowdRise fundraiser to help three South African brothers who lost their parents to AIDS.
So, it’s nice to see Mattel return the favor.
Earlier this year, Barbie introduced more diversity into their Fashionista Line including twenty-three new dolls, featuring eight skin tones, fourteen different sculpts, eighteen eye colors and twenty-three different hair colors.
The brand will be activating nine concert experiences across the globe with different local hosts encouraging kids to raise their voices through the arts. Additionally, kids can join in and raise their voices at home with the new Barbie in Rock ‘N Royals which are available here
