Maru, who has the most followers on Instagram of all the ten dogs I’m featuring in this series, is world famous. It’s easy to see why everyone loves Maru. Besides being a beautiful Shibua Inu, Maru enjoys cuddling his favorite plush bear, enjoys all the seasons (and looks good in a scarf) and always says good morning and goodnight to his followers.
Owner Shinjiro Ono began taking photos of the beautiful Shiba Inu and posting them online to offer some cute relief after the Great East Japan Earthquake. He posted 3 photos a day for 3 years. As he joined Instagram, the number of his overseas followers has exploded, and the comment column became filled with various languages such as English, Chinese, Korean, Russian, and Arabic. He now has fans from people from over 100 countries.
There are a few photo books featuring Shinjiro’s photos of Maru, but published in Korean and Japanese.
