I’d never heard of KOCO BLAQ until I saw his fashion collection featured on episode 9 cycle 22 of Tyra Banks’ America’s Next Top Model. Immediately smitten with the Tiki -like once piece swimsuit, I had to get on the internet and learn more about this label.
Stylist and fashion designer Darnell Terrell is the force behind Los Angeles’ KOKO BLAQ. A former model, Terrell also works as a set decorator, image consultant and branding agent. He has an impressive list of celebrity clients that runs the gamut from Britney Spears to Mike Tyson.
Self-described as having early aspirations in fashion, Darnell, who hails from Arizona, set his sights on the bright lights of Hollywood. After moving West, he infiltrated the Los Angeles fashion scene as a notable stylist and designer. His label KOCO BLAQ designs clothes and swimwear for both men and women that feature chic silhouettes textiles with Tribal and Tiki prints.
KOKO BLAQ TIKI
Here are a few Tiki inspired pieces from the KOKO BLAQ Summer 2016 collection:
My personal favorites are from his Tiki Oasis Collection (which are presently on sale right now here) – the bodysuits, pencil skirts, sleeveless dresses and full skirts that feature the MELE and MOANA tiki masks.
KOCO BLAQ just debuted their latest 2016 Summer swimwear collection on the runway at Miami Swim Week as you can see in the video below (ANTM watchers will recognize a former contestant among the models):
Koco Blaq has an online store where you can find some of these items. However, it only seems to carry womenswear and only a few pieces. They also carry a line of tiki-like summer jewelry by Augustani and tropical faux floral hair accessories.
You can also find some of his tiki skirts and dresses at the Viva Las Vegas online site (Koco Blaq was one of the fashion brands represented at the 2016 Viva Las Vegas Rockabilly Show).
