Celebrate National Lazy Day With Gudetama: Japan’s Adorable Lazy Egg

Gudetama: Japan's Adorable Lazy Egg

When it comes to trends, Sanrio’s Gudetama, introduced in 2013 and based on an egg lacking in “spunk”, is on fire at the moment. Given that today is technically National Lazy Day, I thought it might be a good time to introduce you to the Master of Meh.

Gutedama’s name is a play on “gude gude”; a term used to describe someone with no energy or strength and possibly tama from tamago (egg). In addition to being an adorable little yolk, Gudetama: Japan’s Adorable Lazy Egg is sometimes seen as a man in an orange/yellow bodysuit.

You can watch some Gutedama cartoons here at daily motion.

Like other Sanrio characters, in addition to animation, there are a slew of fun and wacky products based on the character for adults and kids alike. From books and toys to bedding and stationary, there’s no shortage of Gudetama: Japan’s Adorable Lazy Egg products.
