Elizabeth Taylor, Audrey Hepburn and Marilyn Monroe were just a few of the beauties who peered out over New York on Wednesday night as giant illuminated projected images on the Empire State Building. To celebrate the 150th Anniversary of the fashion and style magazine, stills from the pages of Harper’s BAZAAR lit up the Manhattan sky.
Empire State Building Projects Fashion Images Over Manhattan
From 8:30 pm until midnight, reproductions of fashion and beauty imagery from the magazine were projected upon the north side of Manhattan’s Empire State Building, and streamed live on the magazine’s Facebook page, in honor of the 150th Anniversary of the magazine. The project was put on by Harper’s along with Tiffany & Co., both of whom declined to reveal the cost.
The Empire State Building installed a new computer driven LED light system in 2012 capable of displaying 16 million colors, which can change instantaneously. This was proven as the city was illuminated by tons of photos from the magazine as far back as 1933 through today. Icons such as the 60’s Jean Shrimpton to Gwen Stefani, Jennifer Aniston and Natalie Portman graced the landmark. Both editorial photos and covers were projected during the evening.
Here’s a look at several of them thanks to Harper’s and Daily Mail.
