The new Scarlet Splendour Forest Collection of interior furnishings is not for fans of the subtle, but instead for those who like statement pieces. Italian designer Marcantonio’s latest collection of whimsical, sculptural (and pricey) furniture pieces for Scarlet Splendour emulate a highly stylized, pop art Forest.
Scarlet Splendour Forest Collection
Designed by Marcantonio for Scarlet Splendour, the Forest Collection is a playful and quirky way to bring nature indoors. The collection, which started with only one chair, now includes multiple sculptural pieces: chairs, cabinets, sofas, dining and side tables, stools and poufs, coat hangers, mirrors, rugs and benches.
The pieces, although designed by Marcantonio (who has also designed for Seletti and Qeeboo among others), are crafted by Indian artisans with a combination of durable and lasting materials like nautical resin, brass, wood, and more.
The combination of quirky silhouettes with rich colors and brass finishes has a bit of an upscale Seussian vibe. Whether you punctuate a room with just one piece or go all out and create an indoor forest of your own, the eccentric touch to your environment is undeniable.
The Forest Chair from Marcantonio’s Forest Collection is a piece of pop art as much as it is a functional chair. Covered in brass “fur” and “wood grain” it’s embellished with magical tree tops.
The Tree Cabinet is a stupendous cabinet resembling a tree. It’s designed with brass details and stylized clumps of leaves on top making it as sculptural as it is functional.
Brass inlays as simulate stylized wood grain on the top of the Forest Dining Table, which is poised on a handcrafted base with brass details.
The Forest Bench is a fun seat with a brass inlay top and “walking” legs.
The Log Stool has a playful form with brass and resin inlay. It can be used as a seat or a side table.
The Forest Mirror is an arched mirror, and its frame has brass inlay resembling the beauty of natural wood.
Forest Sofa Green is a comfortable three seater sofa with an array of cushions in a variety of green velvets.
Intricate brass and resin inlay with a “spine” run down the middle of the Dragon Slice Stool which can be used both as a seat or an end table.
Resembling the paw of an animal, the Paw Stool has the balance to be used with either side up as a seat or as an occasional table.
The comfortable Leaf Pouffe is a playful pile of soft leaves in shades of rich green leather accented with metal legs.
The Forest Coat Hanger has beautifully “flowing” branches and leaves made of brass, bringing in a bit of nature.
The Gorilla Chair is an ape shaped seat with a rich leather covering and the only product within the collection to come in various colors.
The Leaf Rug is a premium New Zealand wool area rug in a splash of colors shaped like a leaf.
About the Designer
Italian designer Marcantonio Raimondi Malerba attended the Art Institute and the Academy of Fine Arts in Milan and soon began to create unique pieces of design in parallel with artworks. The connection between Man and Nature is Marcantonio’s favourite theme: his main inspiration comes from nature and its life principles. His aim is to turn art into design – and vice versa.
