The Best Red Carpet Looks From The Oscars 2021 (Updated!)
The red carpet fashions at the 93rd Oscars were proof, like the other awards shows of 2021 before them, that people could not wait to get out of the confines of their home —at least those who didn’t gain the Quarantine Twenty— and spread their metaphorical peacock feathers.

Tired of being cooped up during a pandemic and optimistic about the quarantine vaccinations and future, attendees rebelled against Comfys and stained t-shirts in favor of bold, bright and skin-baring. Those who didn’t stand apart for their outrageousness, stood out instead for retro-style glamour or unusual custom couture and jewels.
There were many who went with the Old Hollywood Glamour look, only showing a bit more skin with plunging necklines, bare midriffs or slits cut up to (insert your favorite phrase here).

It was impressive how many could carry off the crazy bright pinks, purples, and yellows.

There were some disappointments, though. Glenn Close’s beaded tunic would have been acceptable had she not used the black netting or had the tunic cut up further. Marlee Matlin’s Medieval Princess sweep-the-floor sleeves and Reese Witherspoon’s Grecianesque gown just left us sad.
