There are numerous impressive cake artists and sugar sculptors out there. You can find their work all over social media sites like Pinterest and Snapchat and we’ve written several posts on some of the most amazing edible art. But then there’s Karen Portaleo. In a class by herself, Karen’s cakes are often created for large movie studios, television networks and prestigious companies. And now she’s launched new Portaleo Candles!
New Karen Portaleo Candles
World-renowned cake artist Karen Portaleo has turned her sculpting prowess toward soy wax and has just launched a line of new candles. Portaleo Candles are made of a natural soy blend, crafted and hand poured in her Atlanta, Georgia studio.
The unscented candles are crafted with the same artistry as her cakes and have cotton wicks.
Launching this month, at present her online store has mainly Halloween-themed candles, but Karen is hard at work expanding her line, creating new candles for holidays and other celebrations, as well as Cake Topper candles and birthday candles.
Flora Skull:
The Flora candle was inspired by Karen’s trip to Casa Azul, Frida Kahlo’s home in Mexico. Big enough to be a dramatic centerpiece, Flora is a 4lb candle, and has three wicks.
Tricky Trio:
This wicked trio consists of a red Devil, a green witch and a pale grey Dracula. Each is about 4 inches tall.
The Tricky Trio: Drac, Devlish and Witch Candles. Sold individually for $20 each or as a set of three for $50.
The Drips:
Sold either as a set or individually, the Drips are three hauntingly fun pillar candles. The tall one is orange and 8” tall and 3” wide, the middle one is yellow, and 4” tall and 4” wide. The Little Drippy is green and 3” tall by 3” wide. Together the set weighs 4.5 lbs. Sold individually for $20 each or as a set of three for $50.
The Drips; Big Drippy, Lil Drippy and Fat Drippy are also sold individually.
She and He Skelly Candles
She and He Skelly candles are available as a set. She and He are both a pale bone color. He stands at 9” tall, and She is 7.5” tall. Together they weigh 3 lbs, and the burn time for each candle is 20 hours.
(2022 Update: Unfortunately, Karen had to put aside her fabulous candle making venture and focus on her cakes and her edible paints and has since shut down her Candle company)
