Hand-Carved Pearl Skull Rings
Pink, peach, white, grey, black and other naturally colored freshwater pearls are delicately carved into skulls by Japanese jewelry designer Shinji Nakaba using Glyptic – a carving technique for jewelry that has been around for centuries.
The hand-carving of the pearl:
The carved pearls are then added to hand-forged ring shanks of blackened (oxidized) stainless steel or gold-plated stainless steel. For an additional price, he will make the ring of 18k yellow or white gold for you.
Each Vanitas ring is made to order (if you cannot find one you like in stock) and each will vary since they are one of a kind.
The rings vary in price depending upon the size of the pearl. Below left is an example of a $160 ring and below right, a $370 ring at the time this post was written:
To place an order for one of these uniquely beautiful rings, Shinji asks that you find a Vanitas ring on his site that appeals to you, give him your ring size and he will create a similar one for you. Each ring is signed by the artist along with “Vanitas” and the date.
