Each year at Halloween I feature an outstanding pumpkin carver or company. There are so many out there and so many carving techniques, it’s becoming harder and harder to choose only one. This year, I’m featuring the impressive carving skills of Edward Cabral.

Edward Cabral is an artist living in Chicago who works in a range of media including pumpkins, ceramics, cakes, sweets, silicone, polyurethane, and plaster. He is one of the many extreme pumpkin carvers who participates in the Louisville Jack-O-Lantern Spectacular.
Cloud-Gate aka The Bean in Chicago’s Millenium Park carved by Edward Cabral
The annual event- which truly is spectacular, takes place at Roger Williams Park in Iroquois, Kentucky. The event features the work of about 130 different carvers. Hundreds of pumpkins are lit and arranged by theme and music along the trails in the park for spectators to enjoy.

Edward has been carving pumpkins for them for at least the past three years. He first draws the image on the pumpkin, then paints it with inks before he carves away the highlights. The results are nothing short of actual art.
