Only 600 square feet of space makes this more like a permanent tent than a cabin, but the Tye River Cabin is as inviting and beautifully designed as once could imagine. The steel, concrete and wood structure, by one of our favorite and frequently blogged about architects, is situated in a dense forest near the Tye River in Skykomish, Washington and connects to the natural environment that surrounds it. The new and beautifully designed Moynihan Train Hall is home to The Hive, one of three permanent art installations in Penn Station’s expansive new 92-foot-high skylit concourse. I came across the talented work of artist and crafter Mimi de Biarritz in a recent New York Times’ T Magazine article about Kit Kemp’s seventh-floor pop-up store in New York City’s Bergdorf Goodman. The temporary outlet incorporated many of Biarritz’ one-of-a-kind items. Among her impressive paper art and objects I spotted two stunning pet beds, so I did a little research and wait until you see what I found. (more…)

Presently living and working in Ottowa, Canada, artist Andrew Beck was born and raised in England graduating from Coventry University with a BA in graphic design. He began his career as a freelance illustrator and graphic designer, but since emigrating to Canada in 2015, he has taken up painting full time. The self-taught artist with a passion for architecture has a series of surreal paintings that combine mid-century modern architecture with figures that appear transplanted from a different time and place. Completed this year, Woodnest in Norway is a family run business offering two stunning treehouses in which you can get away from the concrete jungle. The timber structures, by architects Helen&Hard, are nicely designed, wood-clad treehouses nestled in the woods of Odda, Norway that look out over the magnificent Hardanger fjord. (more…)
