Initially designed over two years ago as a limited edition piece, AMeBE Studio‘s hand painted sculpture, “Cupola, e luce fu!”, was illuminated by a sophisticated system of LED lights adjustable via iPhone or iPad. Now, they’ve joined forces with Seletti to produce the Seletti Cupolone, a suspension light shaped like Saint Peter Basilica’s dome in Rome in white or grey resin for the home or office.
Back in 2017 Alessandra Mantovani and Eleonora Barbareschi of AMeBE Studio created a hyper-realistic 100cm diameter reproduction of Saint Peter Basilica’s dome in Rome; a complicated oversized sculpture which blended craftsmanship and technology. Composed of polyurethane resin, nylon and fiberglass, it was painted and varnished by hand and employed two sets of Italian dimmer LED lights: one on the outer architecture and a 2000 lumen central light, both controlled remotely by digital devices.
Other details included the Silver cross with through which suspension and electricity cables passed, the brass balcony and interior finishes that reproduce the dome’s real mosaics.
Seletti is now offering the Cupolone as a simplified version of the original illuminated sculpture. The 70cm diameter suspension lamp is cast in resin is available in grey or white and signed by AMeBE.
