Fresh baked pizza from a vending machine? That’s right, Mr.Go Pizza is a vending machine that offers four different made-to-order pizzas, with fresh ingredients, in under 3 minutes. The machine kneads and tops the dough and customers can watch their pizza cook behind a small glass window.
Pizza Vending Machines Debut in Italy
Now in Rome the pizza-craving population can simply walk up to a bright red vending machine, choose their toppings, pay between 4.50 to 6 euros and in under four minutes receive a freshly baked, thin crust pizza, roughly 8″ in diameter.
One can choose from either Pizza Margherita,
Pizza with 4 cheeses (Quatro Formaggio):
Pizza alla diavola (Salami Piccante):
or Pizza with bacon (Pancetta):
For many Italians, the classic pizza experience includes watching a “pizzaiolo” knead the dough and cook it in a wood-burning brick oven within sight of your table. The vending machine offers a mechanical version which kneads and tops the dough and customers can watch the pizza cook behind a small glass window.
With the first machine launching yesterday in Rome, the reviews have been mixed ranging from “acceptable if you’re in a hurry” to outright horror. “It looks good but it is much smaller than in a restaurant and there is less topping,” said Claudio Zampiga, a pensioner.
It will be interesting to see if this innovative way of delivering fast foodis a hit with consumers. Maybe it will come to the U.S. someday.
