Tut tut! Someone Got To Stay At Pooh’s House and It Wasn’t Me!

In honor of Winnie-The-Pooh’s 95th Anniversary, some lucky fans got to spend the night in a Bearbnb! A real life Winnie-the-Pooh House designed by Disney illustrator Kim Raymond offered two single night stays on Airbnb for the 24th and 25th of September. Take a look at what an amazing job Disney and Airbnb did with bringing E.H. Shepard’s imagination to life.

Kim Raymond has been illustrating for Disney for 30+ years now as a character artist and knows many of their beloved characters inside and out. He got a chance to prove that with the impressive job he did reimagining Pooh Bear’s house in Hundred Acre Wood to sleep 4 guests per night.

The chance to book the available nights via Airbnb took place September 20th and was only offered to guests in the UK. I apologize to my readers from across the pond for not bringing this to you early enough to attempt to secure it. Oh bother, let me show you what we all missed!

The experience – and it is an experience, not just accommodations – starts with a cluster of trees in the middle of Ashtown Forest (the actual inspiration for Hundred Acre Wood), in between which a door is nestled. Above the doorway hangs the familiar hand-scrawled, inscribed “Mr. Sanders” sign.

With a ceiling height of 2.5 metres (just over 8 feet), the interior is paneled with wood, wainscoting and adorable custom striped and lemon wallpaper designed by Raymond. The home does have electricity and a kettle and clock on the mantel.

Taking his cue from the original decorations by author E.H. Shepard, the windows frames are charmingly askew and Pooh’s house is furnished with an upholstered settee, a rocking chair, a hutch filled with hunny pots (of course), and a few other items.

There’s sleeping space for a family of four. A double bed at the floor level sleeps two and two single beds accessible via ladders are for those older than 6, for safety reasons. A cot can be provided for children of a younger age.

We all know that bears sh*t in the woods which is why Pooh’s House has no bathroom. Tut tut. But you need not fret, a temporary bathroom is installed just a few steps from the home, complete with toilet, shower, sink and vanity, as well as toiletries and towels.

During your stay at the house, you will be taken on a guided tour through the original Hundred Acre Wood, play Poohsticks on the iconic Poohsticks Bridge and enjoy locally sourced, hunny-inspired meals.
