About Alvar Aalto’s Vase
Aalto created the Savoy vase as part of a collection of ten objects that he entered in the 1936 competition to determine what was displayed in the Swedish Pavilion for the 1937 Exposition Universelle in Paris. Aalto won the competition, and his free-form objects, ranging from a shallow dish to a tall vase, enjoyed instant popularity and were commissioned by The Helsinki Savoy Hotel in 1936-7. This vase, known variously as “The Paris Object,” the “Aalto,” and the “Savoy,” is still in production today by Finnish glass company L’ittalia as a classic example of the Scandinavian avant-garde. The vase is part of many museum’s permanent collections including The Met and its shape has been an inspiration for many products such as those shown below.

About Oggetti:
Oggetti is about to have its fiftieth anniversary. That speaks for a company that is reliable and long-term. But more remarkable is that for fifty years Oggetti has led the industry in style and design. The founders Nancy and Robert Frehling literally traveled the world sourcing furniture, accessories, lighting-all the elements to make a beautiful home. Driven by passion and a love for fine materials and design, they consistently brought home exciting additions to the realm of home furnishings. Their son Gregory became part of the team early on and picked up the travelling bug, going to Italy, the Philippines, Vietnam and other far-flung destinations to source for Oggetti. He now is at the helm, continuing the search for quality and beauty. So, as a company that has worked in the design field for almost fifty years, Oggetti has remained relevant, a beacon for forward-thinking designers and architects.
