As it hit the newsstands in Milan two days ago, the September issue of Vogue Italia had a cover that looked a little different. Why? Because it was shot in Vogue’s newest photography frontier, 3D. Enclosed with the Italian issue was a special pair of 3D vision glasses.

2021 update: 11 years ago Vogue Italia published this 3D version of their print magazine. Packaged with 3D glasses, the issue featured several sexy shots of a young Miranda Kerr (who was then pregnant with Orlando Bloom’s child) by Steven Meisel. It was a big innovation at the time, which now, given the proliferation of digital publishing, seems so archaic. We recently updated the photos in this post so you can get a better look at the original 2010 editorial shown below.
Although I’m sharing the cover, the editorial and the backstage video of the shoot here with you, you’ll need to wear the 3D glasses to see the cover and the editorial the way it was truly meant to be seen. Besides, who doesn’t want to see Miranda Kerr’s natural assets in three dimensions?

Vogue has always been known for their powerful imagery and thanks to the possibility of seeing in three dimensions, these unusual editorial photos by Steven Meisel push the borders of fashion photo shoots, a trademark of the magazine.
