Middle Eastern Art Ad Campaign for Marzook

Yes, inserting a product into a classic piece of art has been done a million times. Yet some have a twist- and that’s the case with this ad campaign for the latest collection of luxury handbags from the designer sibling duo behind Marzook.

A reverential homage to some of the most well-known art in the world, the SS’18 collection “Life Imitates Art” launched during Paris Fashion Week. Photographed by Eli Rezkallah with retouching by Konstantin Klimin and production by Plastik Studios, the campaign inserts the brand’s high-end accessories into well-known artworks: Leonardo da Vinci’s Mona Lisa and Lady With An Ermine, Michelangelo’s The Creation of Adam, Vermeer’s The Girl With The Pearl Earring, Boticelli’s The Birth of Venus, Frida Kahlo’s The Two Fridas and Magritte’s The Son of Man – only incorporating a Middle Eastern twist by adding headscarves and abayas.

“I truly believe modesty is religionless,” Fahad Marzook told Vogue Arabia, who runs the label with his sister Shouq. “Women choose modesty as a personal choice in their daily lives. There should not be a distinction between modern and modest fashion in this day and age. We wanted this collection to reflect our personalities and individuality.”

“For the Spring 2018 Collection, we were in touch with our traditional heritage and culture,” adds Shouq, whose brand is much loved by the likes of Amal Clooney and Cara Delevingne. “The collection is called Life Imitating Art. Our joint conception design ethos seamlessly melds with timeless art.”

Featuring the brand’s signature bags in anything-but-minimal designs, the collection celebrates richness and luxury. Incorporating the most exotic leather, metals, and skins into their pieces, the Spring 2018 collection is more than just arm candy. The pièce de résistance  is the Crystal Ball bag (below) – a round clutch completely embellished with Swarovski crystals that resembles a disco ball, sparkle and all.

Each innovative piece will be available to buy in October, just in time for holiday season shopping.

In their own words, The Marzooks describe their handbags as follows:
“The significance of the circle is it is a profound, transcendent symbol. It is said to represent the cycle of life, completion, inclusion, eternity, and the universe. The intertwined double circles (or the letters O) found in the way we have designed the Marzook logo expresses our interlocking creative relationship. We are dependent on each other’s design decisions and we rely on one another for support.

We create handmade luxury art forms. Each design is individually unique finding inspiration from art, architecture, and nature. Introducing distortions in design by breaking norms; and not being a systematic arrangement. We follow an ethos of non-instinctive thinking and the principles of surrealism, without any control by reason and irrational juxtaposition.

Marzook’s exquisite line of accessories consists of exotic leather and skins, precious metals, and resins. The designs draw inspiration from a rich mix of Eastern and Western cultures; which reflect the world the brand was developed in. The collection is a reverence to modern-day objet d’art. We defined our own distinct vision of blending Art Deco and innovative designs to create an unforgettable glamour.”
