Our favorite Christmas chocolates come from La Maison du Quernon, an artisanal chocolatier located in France. Famous for their trademarked Ardoise® quernons, a caramelized nougatine coated in blue chocolate, they also make some of the most adorable looking Christmas confections each year.
La Maison du Quernon Christmas Chocolates
The unique blue colored molded chocolate seen in many of their edible Christmas chocolates is inspired by the Angevin specialty, Quernon d’Ardoise, created in 1966 by René Maillot at La Petite Marquise. Composed of a nougatine caramelized with almonds and hazelnuts coated with blue chocolate, the Ardoise® quernon is square in shape with color reminiscent of the slate shale that covers the rooftops in the city of Angers.

The rich blue color is a nod to Anjou Slate, a blue schist stone seen atop castles, residences and houses throughout France, particularly in the city of Angers and the Ardennes, for over ten centuries.

La Maison du Quernon is well-known for their Quernon d’ardoise in addition to their holiday treats, which come in milk and dark options as well as the famous blue chocolate versions.
