Adorable Japonesque Lamps That Look Geisha Heads!

Juuyo Pendant Lamps

I just love these Juuyo pendant lamps by Lorenza Bozzoli. Two sweet Japonesque pendant lamps designed for Dutch brand Moooi. With a silhouette shaped like the chignon-topped wigs worn by Geishas, these glazed ceramic suspension lights are embellished with either a Koi Carp Tattoo or Peach Cherry Blossoms on the interior.

“What inspired me is an admiration for eastern and Japanese culture. The Juuyo Lamp is an interpretation of the wigs that Geisha wear. The Juuyo was the Geisha’s predecessor in the 17th Century. I’ve been fascinated by their subtlety, strength and grace. They were glamorous well respected entertainers offering more than sex. They entertained their clients by dancing, singing, playing music and make pleasant conversation. Some where renowned poets or calligraphers and carved out a separate niche as artists and erudite female companions. They were not submissive and subservient, but in fact they were some of the most financially and emotionally successful and strongest women in Japan.” – designer Lorenza Bozzoli

Milan-born and based artist Lorenza Bozzoli utilized icons typical of Japan, cherry blossoms and koi, as the basis for her designs.
