Bad Looks from Last Night’s BAFTAs (and Some of The Best)

2024 bafta red carpet

Awards season is upon us and red carpet fashions are coming at us from all sides, including across the pond. Last night the 2024 BAFTA Film Awards (the UK’s equivalent to our Oscars) were held and the range of fashions worn by attending celebs did not disappoint. From elegant and tasteful to downright heinous, there were plenty to ogle. But we found that this year, many of the actresses who often make our ‘favorites’ list, seem to have taken a fashion misstep.

The event was hosted by the lovable David Tennant, who wore a zodiac themed suit. His wife Georgia, an actress he met through Doctor Who, was sporting one of the not-so-great looks from last night.

Some of our picks for the fugliest fashions from the BAFTAs include gowns that made it onto several “Best-Dressed” lists. We don’t know how this happened, unless their relationships with the designer or the celeb blinded the editors. It doesn’t matter to us that Miu Miu made Emma Corrin’s gown, it was still ugly.

Now, I’m a big fan of both the talents of Emma Stone (who took home the Best Actress award) and Greta Gerwig, but NOT of what they wore to the BAFTAs last night. Emma’s custom Louis Vuitton nods to the Victorian era from her movie Poor Things but between the color and unflattering, oversized, shoulder pouf, she looks like a lopsided cantaloupe. Gerwig’s structured gown, while elegant in its design, isn’t doing her any favors.

There were several Loewe gowns at the affair, two of which were stunning; those worn by Sophie Wilde and Taylor Russell, both shown below.

But then there was Allison Oliver. Her Loewe gown had silver streamers at the shoulder and hip that look as if they were stolen from a kiddie’s bike handles and glued on as an afterthought.

And Emily Blunt. While not an unflattering fit, the color washes her out and dare I say it? Whereas Miley could pull this look Jane Fonda / Ann Margret look off on the Grammys, on Emily it’s a bit trashy and slutty.  A more refined gown in red or navy would have been much prettier.

Bryce Dallas Howard’s look was a disaster, from the hair to the shoes.

It appears that Bradley Cooper was under the impression that he’d be captaining The Titanic last night in his Nautical-like double breasted coat with flared leg trousers. Ahoy!

Mimi Keene’s cheap looking, ill-fitted and wrinkled wintergreen sheath over silver studded push up bra looks like the kind of dress a teenager would stash in the car to change into once she left her parents’ house.

Ayo Edebiri made almost all the best-dressed lists!!?? STOP. That ugly peach dress with 1940s neckline and a wrap that looks like it got caught in the car door and dragged for 2 miles is not a good look.

You cannot tell me that the upper half of Sandra Huller’s dress doesn’t look like a silver shower curtain. Or worse, like those cheap fabric restaurant booth dividers you can squish or pull.

Laura Blair’s dress was all wrong. Wrong color, wrong design, just wrong.

Boring

Tasteful and flattering, but not necessarily memorable, were the gowns worn by Cate Blanchett, Dua Lipa,  Da Vine Joy Randolph and Margot Robbie:
