Already an accomplished photographer, multi-talented artist Ellen November is also darn impressive with a needle and thread.

Ellen November Textile Art

Her current textile work includes these wonderful cartographic quilts of Southern California coastal locations inspired by Thomas Guides. With an eye for composition and color, she captures icons of various venues and combines them with the grid like background and arterial highway veins one is used to seeing on paper or digital maps. Her expert craftsmanship makes these ‘quilts’ take on a both a tactile and graphic design quality, perfect for display or gifts.

Some of her latest fiber art can now be seen in the group show Mapping Out: Cartographic Quilts. The show opens today and runs through November 29th at the Malaga Cove Library in Palos Verdes, California.

About the artist:

Ellen got her first sewing machine at age 10 and it’s been a love affair with fabric ever since. Moving from traditional quilts to art quilts, she has truly found her element. She received a BFA in Illustration from the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California. Art quilts allow her to combine her skills in illustration, photography, graphic design and fiber art. Her work is part of a permanent installation at Harbor UCLA Medical Center in Southern California.

She resides on the Palos Verdes Peninsula in the Los Angeles area.
