While the winners of Sunday night’s 2024 Oscars ceremony were not a surprise given that they fell in line with most of this season’s award shows, some of the red carpet fashions were. A great year for movies, but, as is always the case, not necessarily a great night for every nominee when it comes to their choice of couture. The following actresses made lasting impressions with these unique and flattering choices.

MEH

These are not at all offensive, but then again, they certainly aren’t memorable. While it’s hard to make these gorgeous women look boring, these came awfully close.

Many liked the grecian-style gown and butterfly sleeves worn by Halee Steinfeld. We just didn’t love her blooming nipples.

MISTAKE

Call it an error in judgement or simply a fashion misstep, but the following dresses need to be bagged and buried.

The following attempts at uniqueness or as a nod to other performances just plain didn’t work. Out of context, or seen merely on the red carpet, these fashion faux pas are unflattering, unappealing and in some cases, unbelievably unattractive.

Once we heard that Cythia Errivo’s Green Leather Godzilla outfit and Ariana Grande’s pale pink Colostomy bag dress were nods to their roles in Wicked, we forgave them. A little.

But there’s no forgiving the neckline on Molly Sims dress.

Or the floating straps on Emily Blunt and Florence Pugh.

And the two that hurt our eyes the most?

Nikki Bella’s Feathered fiasco.

And a rare misfire by designer Christian Siriano made Erika Alexander look like a hot mess.
