Classic Cliff May House Replaced With Mega Mansion Complete With Ballistic Safe Room, Retracting Roof and Chef’s Kitchen by Nobu.

Pacific Palisades Mega Mansion Replaces Cliff May House

Pacific Palisades Mega Mansion Replaces Cliff May House.
What was once a classic California home designed in the Spanish Colonial style by legendary architect Cliff May has since been torn down and replaced with this giant mega mansion from Los Angeles-based design and construction firm Arya Group, Inc. The newly listed home in Southern California’s Pacific Palisades is a whopping 20,000 square feet, has 6 bedrooms, 18 bathrooms (11 full and 7 half) and is available to lease for $350k a month. It’s loaded with the types of high tech features you might see in a James Bond movie combined with the kind of over-the-top luxury you’d expect to find in a Kardashian home.

It’s not enough for the new homes in Los Angeles to get larger, they seem to compete for the most over-the-top. Classic design and California ranch styles have made way for giant blocky homes that lack character in terms of architecture. Most are loaded with uninspired furniture and baller novelties like illuminated bars, car galleries, wild swimming pools and rooftops with helipads. Always with breathtaking views, these homes have begun to gobble up the cliffs facing the Pacific Ocean.

New Pacific Palisades Mansion

Cliff May (1909- 1989) is referred to as “The Father of the California Ranch House” a post-WWII architectural style noted for its long, close-to-the-ground profile, and wide open layout. While some architects have lovingly restored Cliff May homes (like this one by Marmol Radziner or the Alisal Ranch Home) and other California Mid-century Modern architectural masterpieces such as this Thornton Abell home or Michael la Fetra’s restored John Lautner’s Stevens House, the majority are torn down and replaced with multi-level modern mansions.

The latest example of the over-the-top modern mansion for the immodest has arrived in the form of this newly listed 20,000 square foot home in an exclusive gated community in California’s Pacific Palisades next to Santa Monica State Park. A new build on the spot that was once occupied by the Cliff May house, a quarter the size, shown below.
