In the past they brought us Finger Lickin’ Good edible nail polish, and this year Ogilvy & Mather Group Hong Kong has served up an eye-catching ad campaign for KFC’s Hot & Spicy Fried Chicken.
KFC Hot & Spicy Ad Campaign
The three print ads in the KFC Hot & Spicy print campaign could have merely had images of mutant-sized fried chicken replacing clouds in the sky or boulders on a mountain, but instead they added a concept to the visual twist that makes sense.
In the ads “fiery explosions” are replaced by macro photographs of the brand’s Hot & Spicy Fried Chicken. A Formula 1 engine as it roars through the finish line; the rocket engine thrust from the Space Shuttle’s lift off; and the fiery explosion as seen behind the poses struck by The Power Rangers, a world-wide Superhero TV show for youths.
The ads have inarguable stopping power and, believe it or not, taste appeal. The only potential problem here could be over-promise.
The inspiration for the above print ad:
