In stark contrast to yesterday’s hotel post, Banksy has opened a hotel of his own in Palestine and no, it’s not a joke. Walled Off is a legit art hotel complete with fully functioning ensuite facilities; artist-decorated rooms, a palatial presidential suite, scary budget rooms that look like barracks, an independently operated gallery and a museum. Operated by the local community, its meant to offer a warm welcome to everyone from all sides of the conflict and across the world. Read more

For 60 years the Molitor were the most popular swimming baths in Paris. In 1989, the Molitor closed and was declared a historical monument. Over time the dilapidated building became a favorite haunt of graffiti artists and a hang-out for the Paris Underground. Hoping to once again become an inspirational place for the artistic and cultural community, the Molitor has re-opened with a beautiful overhaul. Read more
Brand new, Switzerland’s Whitepod resort has just opened (on the 20th of December 2011) featuring 15 private geodesic pods that resemble igloos anchored on wooden platforms, a recently built spa, a central chalet and private skiing for the guests.
Each pod has a large double bed for 2 people. Five of the pods are equipped with mezzanines that can hold 2 extra beds. However, the mezzanine beds are not intended for adults, they are more appropriate for children from 8 to 16 years old.
All pods are equipped electricity, a floor lamp, wood-burning stoves and organic luxury bedding. The bathrooms are heated with an electric heater and equipped with fully fitted bathrooms; shower, sink, toilet, hairdryer, towels and amenities. And each pod has two pairs of Crocs™ (plastic clogs) at your disposal, lol!
At the center of the 15 pods, stands a charming early 1800s wooden chalet where guests meet for breakfast in the morning or gather in the evening around its central fireplace for evening drinks and socializing.
The Relaxation area, which is inside the Pod-house, at the center of the pods, has:
– One Finnish sauna
– One Japanese bath
– Changing rooms
Open every day from 15:00 to 20:00 or on request

San Francisco multidisciplinary designer Timothy Goodman was among a small group of artists asked to contribute to the mural project for the Ace Hotels.
The uber trendy hotel chain (whose rooms, I personally feel, look like college dorms) has locations in New York, Seattle, Portland and Palm Springs. Known for their appeal to the young and hip, the chain of hotels incorporates plenty of art, design, music and culture in their utilitarian-esque rooms and lobbies. They also have an association with the popular and fun Rudy Barbershops.
Timothy joined the ranks of other artists when he covered the walls of one smallish room in the latest Ace Hotel NYC location with 99 hand-drawn picture frames. Created with black paint markers and paint, he then filled them with images of facts, love, tidbits, items of interest and shout-outs to other folks to represent, in his own words, “the spontaneity and grit of the city.”
After undergoing two full years of important renovation work, Le Royal Monceau – Raffles Paris, which had closed down in June 2008, opened its doors in October of this year with a whole new look for the luxury hotel. Read more
