These aren’t just dog houses. These are architectural masterpieces for canines. And priced as such. Designed and built by Pijuan Design Workshop, the Ranch style, Eichler-inspired and other Mid-century Modern Dog Houses are crafted with care and those shown here cost upwards of $3500 each.
Custom Mid-Century Modern Dog Houses
These beautiful dog houses are a joint effort – designed and produced by Alejandro and his wife Sara of Los Angeles-based Pijuan Design Workshop. Both are recipients of graduate degrees in architecture from USC where they learned to appreciate the simplicity of good design and simultaneously developed an affinity for Mid-Century Modern architecture. Alejandro presently works as a Senior Associate at Johnson Fain in addition to his hand-making luxury dog homes.
The dog-loving couple were inspired by notable architects from the MCM era such as Walter Gropius, Ludwig Mies Van der Rohe, Joseph Eichler and Pierre Koenig, and set out to design dog houses that were both functional and stylish.
They have several models designed for various sized dogs and determined to do it right, they based the main living area for each design using standard dog crate sizes of Small, Medium, Large and Extra Large. Once the footprint was established they considered what it is that a dog might enjoy on a daily basis and incorporated features such as accessible green roofs, partially covered sun decks, peek-a-boo windows, places for food bowls and artificial turf.
All the dog houses are made-to-order with an average build time of 5-6 weeks. Fully customized, they can tailor the design from the size and placement of the dog bowl to the stain color of the wood siding.

1118 Woof Ranch
The “1118 WOOF RANCH” measures approximately 44″ wide by 72″ long. The low pitched roof and eaves allow for a shaded interior while providing passive ventilation for the pup to stay cool. The roof is made of expressed beams and eaves with cedar shingles from end to end.
As an aesthetic feature for the owner, a custom planter box is situated below the extended eaves to allow for water run off to water and hydrate the planting below.
It has both indoor and outdoor comforts for the dog by means of a deck. The deck extends inside to create a cozy retreat for the dog to cuddle up on the cool artificial turf while also allowing it to soak in some rays on his personal deck.
The internal part of the dog retreat contains a window or portal for the dog to be able to keep track of what going on both inside and outside of his retreat.

Eichler Ranch
A post and Beam Ranch with Eichler-inspired siding and a solid walnut food tray.
A custom planter box is situated below the extended eaves to allow for water run off to water and hydrate the planting below. Multiple windows in the siding allow the dog to get a view of his surroundings.

Dog Re-Treat
The “DOG RETREAT” is approximately 44″ wide by 72″ long. It has both indoor and outdoor comforts for the dog by means of a deck. The deck extends inside to create a cozy retreat for the dog to cuddle up on his custom made dog bed while also allowing it to soak in some rays on his personal deck.
The internal part of the dog retreat contains a window or portal for the dog to be able to keep track of what going on both inside and outside of his retreat.
The roof is also thought about with the addition of a live roof system of which has carex grass planted in a 2′ x 3′ grid.
This live roof gives both a temperature barrier for the retreat and also a lounging area for the dog. The roof is accessible through the back ledge for any dog to lounge and enjoy the view.

Mutt’erfly House
The “MUTTER’FLY HOUSE” measures approximately 38″ wide by 64″ long and is made to order. The design is taken from the butterfly roof designs of the 50’s and 60’s seen on many MCM homes in Palm Springs.
The iconic shape lends itself to a clean roof line with distinct elements to tie it all together. A metal breeze block screen, fireplace stack, green roof for temperature control and succulent garden all create a calm and inviting place for your pup to hang out and call home.
The interior of the house features an open deck for ventilation and easy cleaning. Most outdoor beds are applicable in size for the house.

Modern Dog House – Beam House (Eichler Inspired)
The ‘beam house’ draws its inspiration from the architecture of Joseph Eichler, specifically his homes in Orange, CA. This luxury dog house bring mid century modern architecture to your own backyard with clean lines of vertical wood siding and a low slung pitched roof.
The broad eaves allow for a shaded interior while providing your dog a shaded area to stay cool. The roof is composed of exposed wood beams with T&G wood boards covered with cedar shingles.
A custom planter box is situated below the extended eaves to allow for water run off to water and hydrate the planting below.
The deck provides indoor and outdoor comfort for the dog to cuddle up on the cool artificial turf while also allowing it to soak in some rays on their personal deck. A window gives the pup a view and a way to keep track on what is going on outside of the house.
