Now that the nominees for the 2015 Golden Globes have been announced, here’s all you need to know before tuning into the 72nd Annual Golden Globe Awards. Guide To The 2015 Golden Globes
Once again, the hilarious duo of actress/comediennes Tina Fay and Amy Poehler will be hosting.
• Four out of the five movies to earn Golden Globe best picture nominations this year are based on true stories— Foxcatcher, The Imitation Game, The Theory of Everything and Selma. The odd man out is Boyhood, Richard Linklater’s story of a boy growing up, filmed over 12 years.
• The movies’ four actors, Steve Carell, Benedict Cumberbatch, David Oyolo and Eddie Redmayne will vie for the best dramatic actor Golden Globe, along with the odd man out, Jake Gyllenhaal, who was nominated for for Nightcrawler.
• Actresses nominated in the best drama category are Jennifer Aniston (Cake), Felicity Jones (The Theory of Everything), Julianne Moore (Still Alice) Rosamund Pike (Gone Girl) and Reese Withersponn (Wild)
• The nominations were announced by Underworld star Kate Beckinsale, two-time Golden Globe Award-nominee Peter Krause, Paula Patton and Golden Globe winner and five-time nominee Jeremy Piven.

Miss 2015 Golden Globe:
Following tradition where a daughter or son of one of Hollywood’s most respected actors is selected to assist at the Golden Globes, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association named Greer Grammer Miss Golden Globe 2015.
About Greer Grammer:
Greer Grammer is the 22-year-old daughter of three-time Golden Globe winner Kelsey Grammer. Greer, one of the stars of the MTV series Awkward, takes over from Sosie Bacon, the daughter of Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick. Her selection was kept a secret until she was announced at the star-studded Miss Golden Globe party at the Fig and Olive Restaurant in West Hollywood. HFPA President Theo Kingma made the announcement at the party, the first of the 2015 Golden Globe Awards Season, hosted by the HFPA and InStyle.
Greer, who was named after the actress Greer Garson, has already carved a considerable niche for herself in show business, having known since the age of five that she wanted to be an actress.
She entered her first beauty pageant in 2008, winning the Miss Teen Malibu title and went on to reach the top ten of the Miss California Teen competition for four successive years.
She acquired an agent when she was 16, after convincing her parents she wanted to act for the love of it, not merely to be famous, and quickly landed a role on iCarly. She had her first movie role in 2010 in Almost Kings, then went on to appear in Chastity Bites and Life Partners.
She graduated from USC in June as a theater major. Her latest film, An Evergreen Christmas, has just been released
Greer is in for a busy year ahead, juggling Miss Golden Globe duties with her role as Lissa in the fifth season of Awkward and a recurring role in the new series Melissa and Joy, which starts filming in the New Year.
“It’s all great because I love being busy,” says Greer. “I’m so looking forward to being Miss Golden Globe for a year.”

The 2015 Cecil B. DeMille Honoree is George Clooney
He has won four Golden Globes during his career and now George Clooney will be honored with the 2015 Cecil B. DeMille Award.
Clooney, an actor, writer, director and producer, who is also known for his humanitarian deeds, will receive the award at the 72nd annual Golden Globe Awards on January 11.
“The HFPA is honored to bestow the Cecil B. DeMille Award to George Clooney to celebrate his outstanding contributions both in front of and behind the camera,” said HFPA president Theo Kingma.
The Cecil B. DeMille Award is given annually to those who have made an incredible impact on the world of entertainment. Recent recipients include Woody Allen (2014), Jodie Foster (2013), Morgan Freeman, (2012), Robert De Niro (2011), Martin Scorsese (2010), Steven Spielberg (2009), Warren Beatty (2007), Anthony Hopkins (2006), Robin Williams (2005), Michael Douglas (2004), Gene Hackman (2003) and Harrison Ford (2002).
Clooney last year appeared in Gravity and through his Smokehouse production company he most recently produced, directed and starred in The Monuments Men . He will soon be seen starring in the upcoming sci-fi film Tomorrowland for Disney.
Clooney’s achievements as a performer and a filmmaker have earned him four Golden Globes, two Academy Awards, four SAG Awards, one BAFTA award, two Critics’ Choice Awards, an Emmy and four National Board of Review Awards.
He is recognized as much for his global humanitarian efforts as he is for his accomplishments in the entertainment industry. In 2006, Clooney and his father, Nick, went to drought-stricken Darfur, Africa, to George Clooney press conference for “The Ides of March”. The Ritz-Carlton, Cancun, Mexico. July 12, 2011.film the documentary Journey to Darfur and the following year Clooney, Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, Don Cheadle and Jerry Weintraub founded Not On Our Watch, an organization whose mission is to focus global attention and resources to stop and prevent mass atrocities in Darfur. Among the many honors received as a result of his humanitarian efforts in Darfur, was the 2007 Peace Summit Award, given at the eighth World Summit of Nobel Peace Prize Laureates.
In 2008, Clooney was designated a U.N. Messenger of Peace, one of eight individuals chosen to advocate on behalf of the U.N. and its peacekeeping efforts. Two years later, Clooney, along with Joel Gallen and Tenth Planet Productions, produced the Hope for Haiti Now! telethon, raising more than $66 million. The Academy of Television Arts and Sciences awarded Clooney with the Bob Hope Humanitarian Award and later that year, Clooney received the Robert F. Kennedy Ripple of Hope Award for his dedication to humanitarian efforts in Sudan and Haiti.
The Cecil B. DeMille award winners are chosen by the HFPA board of directors and presented each year (except for 1976). Last year’s recipient was Woody Allen.
About the Cecil B. DeMille award:
When the Hollywood Foreign Press Association decided to establish a special,prestigious award for outstanding contributions to the world of entertainment, the members wanted it to bear an internationally recognized and respected name. So they turned to a born showman, Cecil B. DeMille, who accepted the idea graciously,and the first Cecil B. DeMille award went to him in 1952, the year his penultimate film, The Greatest Show on Earth, premiered.
The following year, 1953, at the Tenth Annual Golden Globe Awards gala,Walt Disney received the DeMille award; the winning pictures were The Greatest Show on Earth and With a Song in My Heart while Gary Cooper, Shirley Booth, Donald O’Connor and Susan Hayward took the top acting awards (and Richard Burton was pronounced Most Promising Newcomer).
Such notables (including several future DeMille awardees) as Joan Crawford,Dean Martin, Jerry Lewis, Robert Mitchum, Jane Russell, Stanley Kramer, Bing Crosby, Bob Hope, Doris Day, Samuel Fuller, Alan Ladd and others wrote warm congratulatory letters to the Association on this anniversary.
The first woman to receive the award was Judy Garland in 1962 (following Fred Astaire, something which delighted her to no end); the next was Joan Crawford in 1970. The list of winners provides a spectrum of talented human beings who have had a definite impact on the world of entertainment, be it Alfred Hitchcock, Lucille Ball, Sidney Poitier, Sophia Loren, Sean Connery, Barbra Streisand or any one of those thoughtfully selected for the honor.

The Golden Globes is the only awards show today that combines the intimacy and spontaneity of a party for several hundred of film and TV’s finest with the drama and anticipation of a live, worldwide-televised event.
Stars, journalists and guests freely mingle during the telecast with no designated ‘seat-fillers,’ lending the show an air of informality and casual elegance where anything can happen — and most often does. Winners good-naturedly moon the crowd (Jack Nicholson in 1999), have to be rousted out of the bathroom (Christine Lahti in 1998), or give their award away (Ving Rhames giving his statuette to his idol Jack Lemmon in 1998). Founded in October 1943 by eight foreign journalists, the organization was originally called the Hollywood Foreign Correspondents Association. The first awards ceremony was held during a luncheon at 20th Century Fox, where the winners in five categories—Best Motion Picture, Best Actor and Actress, and Best supporting Actor and Actress—received scrolls, with “The Song of Bernadette” winning the top prize. The next year the ceremony was held at the Beverly Hills Hotel, but the fledgling group’s funds were so tight that Joan Bennett’s gardener was tapped to supply the flowers for the tables. The actual Golden Globe award came about in 1946, when association president Marina Cisternas came up with the idea of using a statuette of a “golden globe” with a filmstrip circling it.
The Golden Globes were always given out by journalists in the association up until 1958, when Rat Packers Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, and Sammy Davis, Jr. stormed the stage, with whiskeys and cigarettes in tow, and took over the show, to the delight of the audience. They repeated their performance the next year (this time at the request of the HFPA) and since then, the stars have reigned supreme at the Globes.
• The first telecasts of the Globes were from 1958-1963 but were only aired locally in L.A.
• The first national telecasts of the awards were during a special segment on “The Andy Williams Show” in 1964 and 1965.
• Most Globes won by a film: five, shared by five winners: “Doctor Zhivago”(1966), “Love Story” (1971), “The Godfather” (1973), “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest” (1976), and “A Star is Born” (1977).
• Perfect records: “Doctor Zhivago”, “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest”, and “A Star is Born” all received five nominations and won five Globes.
• “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest” is the only film to win the Globe in all five major categories (Best Motion Picture, Actor, Actress, Director, Screenplay).
• Most nominations by a film: nine for “Nashville” (1976) — ironically the film only won one Globe, for the Best Song “I’m Easy” by Keith Carradine. Three other films — “Cabaret” (1973), “Bugsy” (1992), and “Titanic” (1998) — tied for second with eight nominations apiece. All won Best Motion Picture in their respective categories.
• Biggest shutouts: “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?” (1967) and “The Godfather, Part III” (1991) each received seven nominations but no Globes.
• Most individual Globes: eight went to Meryl Streep, followed by six to Jack Nicholson, five each to Francis Ford Coppola, Shirley MacLaine, Rosalind Russell, and Oliver Stone.
• Rosalind Russell won all five Golden Globes she was nominated for but never won an Oscar.
• Most individual nominations: Meryl Streep 28, Jack Lemmon 22.
• Only three-way tie: Jodie Foster (“The Accused”), Shirley MacLaine (“Madame Sousatzka”), and Sigourney Weaver (“Gorillas in the Mist”) for Best Actress in 1989.
• Only winners to receive two acting Globes in the same year: Sigourney Weaver won Best Actress for “Gorillas in the Mist” and Best Supporting Actress for “Working Girl” in 1989; Joan Plowright won Best Supporting Actress for “Enchanted April” and “Stalin” in 1993 and Kate Winslet won Best Actress for “Revolutionary Road” 2009 and Best Supporting Actress for “The Reader” in 2009.
• Most nominations in one year: Jamie Foxx, 2005. Best Actor in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy, “Ray”; Best Actor in a Supporting Role in a Motion Picture – Drama, “Collateral”; Best Actor in a Mini-Series or a Motion Picture Made for Television, “Redemption”.
• Youngest winner: Ricky Schroeder was nine years old when he won the Globe for Best New Star of the Year in 1980 for “The Champ”.
• Oldest winners: 80-year-old Jessica Tandy won Best Actress for “Driving Miss Daisy” in 1990, and 76-year-old Henry Fonda won Best Actor for “On Golden Pond” in 1982.
• Winners who refused the Globe: The producers of “Z” refused the Globe for Best Foreign Language Film in 1970 because they wanted the film included in the main Best Motion Picture category. Marlon Brando refused his Best Actor Globe for “The Godfather” in 1973 to protest U.S. “imperialism and racism”. He similarly didn’t accept his Oscar statuette.
The 2015 72nd Annual Golden Globe Awards will air in January.
